Keagan Webster, a 2016 Sedona Red Rock High School graduate, accepted a scholarship to play golf at NCAA Division II Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.

Webster, a First Team All-State selection as a senior, played for Glendale Community College during the
2016-17 season. There, he averaged a 78.51.

“I learned a lot about my golf game [at Glendale],” Webster said. “I definitely learned a lot competition-wise and I’m excited to continue on to the next, upper level.”

While at Red Rock, Webster was a four-year letterwinner for the Scorpions. Throughout the four years his scoring average per nine holes dropped, and he ultimately finished at 37.93 his senior season.

That score landed him fourth lowest all-time, and his 18-hole average of 82.69 is seventh all-time.

He tied for the 11th-best 18-hole round in program history at 69, shot at Antelope Hills Golf Course, also as a senior.

For the best nine-hole round, Webster has two scores also tied for 11th-best at 33, one shot as a junior and the other a senior.

As a team, the Scorpions finished second overall at the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III State Championship in 2016.

Apart from the excitement of continuing to play at the NCAA Division II level, Webster equally looks forward to moving farther away from home.

“A little nervous, because that first year [at Glendale] I lived alone there,” he said. “I learned the experience of being alone. This time I’m excited to get out and experience something I’ve never experienced before.”

Webster identified with the small town feel of Durango, relating it to life in Sedona.

But more than playing golf, he recognizes the importance of school.

“Graduating, that’s the No. 1 thing,” Webster said. “Golf is second.”

He will study business and looks to add a minor, which for now he thinks will be accounting.

Athletically, he wants to adapt to the higher level of play.

“Hopefully win a collegiate tournament; that would be an amazing thing for me,” he said.
