A pair of Sedona swimmers competed at the 2017 Speedo Far Western Long Course Championships from July 26, to Sunday, July 30, in Concord, Calif.
Fourteen-year-old Sedona Swordfish swimmer Andrew Tate accrued qualifying times to swim four events.
After preliminaries he did not qualify for a championship final, but he did drop time in three of the four events.
“We expected him to improve in all of his swims, but the lengths he’s improved this summer reach far and beyond what we expected,” Swordfish head coach A. Jay Bronson said. “It’s great for him. It’s a great benchmark to reach and a great stepping stone moving forward.”
Twelve-year-old Carlos Lattanzi of Verde Valley High Performance in the Village of Oak Creek swam in six events. In the 400 individual medley Lattanzi qualified in fourth for the championship final and finished seventh overall.
