Lt. Gen. Richard E. Merkling, 92, of Sedona, died
July 24.

He flew over 400 combat missions, finishing his
34-year career as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Engineering for the Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Goodman.

He is survived by his wife Anne; sister Jane Fahlman; children John Merkling, Vicki Tarallo, Carol Vilate and Mark Merkling; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
