Sedona football wins on senior night3 min read

It was an eventful senior night for Sedona Red Rock High football as the Scorpions defeated Valley Lutheran 49-32 on Friday, Oct. 19.

“After the game I thanked the seniors for all their contributions as they all each gave a lot for us tonight,” Sedona coach Tom Miller said. “ I also told them we need to clean up some of our issues and carry this momentum into our next game.”

With the win, Sedona improves to 3-6 this season.

Valley Lutheran received the ball first and gained 20 yards on the first play before turning the ball over on a fumble.

Sedona took over at the Valley Lutheran 45 and wasted no time driving down the field.

Scorpions running back Connor Knuth took the handoff and ran 29 yards for a Sedona touchdown.

After hitting the extra point, Sedona led 7-0 with 11:01 remaining in the first quarter.

The Scorpions forced a punt on Valley Lutheran’s next drive and Sedona started their next drive inside their own three.

Valley Lutheran’s defense forced a safety and with 7:49 left in the first quarter, Sedona’s lead stood at 7-2.

Sedona’s defense came through again as defensive back Jake Brown returned an interception for a touchdown,
giving the Scorpions a 14-2 lead.

Jake Brown then helped the Scorpions offense as the quarterback found Evan Favorite for a 25-yard touchdown.

With 1:29 left in the first quarter, the Scorpions led Valley Lutheran 21-2.

Valley Lutheran responded on offense and drove the ball deep into Scorpions territory.

Sedona’s defense held tough in the red zone and Valley Lutheran settled for a 30-yard field goal to cut Sedona’s lead to 21-5.
The Scorpions fumbled on their next possession, putting Valley Lutheran in a position to cut into Sedona’s lead.

A 49-yard field goal by Valley Lutheran had the distance but was wide left on this cold windy night.

Sedona took advantage of Valley Lutheran’s missed opportunity as the offense quickly drove down the field.

Favorite found the end zone again for Sedona as the receiver took the handoff and scored from 36 yards out.
With 3:53 remaining in the first half, Sedona led 28-5 over Valley Lutheran.

Valley Lutheran responded with a touchdown of their own as Valley Lutheran quarterback Carson Mousel found Justin Hatley for a 46-yard touchdown.

Valley Lutheran cut Sedona’s lead to 28-12 with 1:35 remaining in the first half.

Sedona was not done in the first half, however, as Favorite scored his third touchdown of the half with 14 seconds remaining.
The Scorpions went into the half leading 35-12 over Valley Lutheran.

In the second half, Sedona used a fake punt near midfield to keep their drive alive.

On the next play, Brown injured his leg after a 25-yard carry put Sedona at the five.
Brown did not return to the game and needed crutches.

Trevor Stovall scored on a five-yard carry to give Sedona a 42-12 lead.

Valley Lutheran scored 20 points in the second half but could not dig itself out of the 30-point deficit it faced.

Sedona would receive the ball with one minute left and ran out the rest of the clock.

Sedona ends its season on Friday, Oct. 26, when the Scorpions travel to Wellton to take on Antelope High School.
