This Friday, Oct. 26, Sedona football travels to Wellton to face Antelope High School.
Sedona is 3-6 this season and wants to end its regular season on a high note against the Rams.
“We have a really good opponent coming up so we need to keep executing if we want to beat them,” Sedona coach Tom Miller said. “We will have to fix our rough edges to have a chance on Friday.”
Antelope is 7-3 this season and have won four of its last five games with three of those wins coming in shutouts.
The Rams are coming off a 30-0 loss to North Pointe Prep where the offense turned the ball over eight times.
Coming into this matchup, the Rams’ margin of victory is 37 points this season.
The Scorpions are coming off a season high 49 points in a 49-32 win over Valley Lutheran on Friday, Oct. 19.
It was a senior night to remember for Sedona last week as the Scorpions controlled the game from start to finish.
Sedona senior Evan Favorite scored three touchdowns while senior quarterback/defensive back Jake Brown threw a touchdown and returned an interception for a score.
Since returning from injury, Favorite has been a key playmaker in Sedona’s offense.
“He made a lot of big plays for us on the perimeter and that was the biggest difference Friday,” Miller said. “When you have someone like him, you always have a chance for big plays and scoring plays.”
Not to be outdone, his fellow senior teammates also had standout performances against Valley Lutheran.
“Several guys played really well for including Evan, Jake and running back Trevor Stovall,” Miller said. “Connor Knuth also gave us a great performance on defense.”
Brown left the game in the third quarter due to injury and needed crutches.
“I think he is going to be alright but we are not 100 percent certain and will have to wait for the results,” Miller said. “Sometimes you do not know how you are feeling until the day of the game.”
The win also snapped the Scorpions three-game losing streak.
Miller has also preached the importance of Sedona’s interior running game and it will be put to the test against Antelope.
“We are getting better, I think a big part of it was our offensive line was dominatingup front,” Miller said. “We were great at running the ball inside and outside which is how I like it.”
Antelope’s defense has held opponents to under 14 points in every Rams win this season.
To counter that, Miller believes it is important that the Scorpions stay ahead in the chains and avoid down and distance scenarios.
Sedona will also look to win the turnover battle against Wellton, like the Scorpions did against Valley Lutheran.
The Scorpions won the turnover battle 2-1 and scored 14 points off Valley Lutheran’s giveaways. The game begins at 7 p.m.
