The Sedona City Council gave the green light to developers to move one step closer to construction of a nine-unit subdivision. Council unanimously voted to approve a Final Plat for Foothills South Unit 5, allowing a subdivision at 100 Racquet Road.
This was listed under consent items on the agenda and there was no discussion by council. As he had with the Preliminary Plat request, Vice Mayor John Martinez recused himself from the vote since he has a financial stake in the matter.
“City staff has reviewed the Final Plat and determined that all conditions of approval have been met,” a city report states.
“As all conditions have been met, the city council may now consider approval of the Final Plat.” Once approved, the applicant will be required to provide financial assurances in accordance
with the Sedona Land Development Code. Once this is completed, the applicant will record the Final Plat with Yavapai County and construction of the infrastructure improvements and residences will proceed through the building permit process.
On Sept. 25 of last year, council approved the Preliminary Plat. According to a city report, the nine-unit subdivision will be located in West Sedona at the northeast corner of Racquet Road and Salido Del Sol, within the existing Foothills South subdivision. It is approximately 4.43 acres in size and is part of the Foothills South.
The property was developed as the Sedona Racquet Club prior to incorporation of the city of Sedona in 1988. The racquet club included several tennis courts and a pool. In its final years, the club renovated to clay courts, which rendered them unusable during certain parts of the year. The club had declining membership among residents from outside the Foothills South development.
By 2012, the Racquet Club was closed and sold. The intention to subdivide the property for single-family lots was made clear during the 2016 application for a Major Community Plan Amendment and zone change, during which the property was redesignated and rezoned to Single Family Low Density and RS-18a, in alignment with the designation and zoning of the remainder of Foothills South.
