What do you get when you combine thousands of Easter eggs with hundreds of anxious kids looking to scoop up as many as possible?
Chaotic joy.
That’s how Sedona Parks and Recreation’s Ali Baxter described the scene each year during the Celebration of Spring’s Easter egg hunt.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Posse Grounds Park. The cost is $5 for children 12 and younger, free for older children and adults.
“April 20 is going to be an awesome day — carnival rides, petting zoo, live entertainment and egg hunts all surrounded by the red rocks basking in the Arizona spring sunshine,” Baxter said. “What more could you ask for?”
The egg hunts begin at 10 a.m. for children 12 and younger; hunts will be divided into four age groups.
Some 21,000 eggs are waiting to be found. Local businesses will be on site with interactive displays and the Easter bunny will be on hand for pictures. This is a family-friendly event, but participants are asked to leave their pets at home.
Baxter said all of the carnival rides are new this year and include a Ferris wheel, Monkey Maze, Puppy Roll and others. They’re bringing back the popular petting zoo and the live entertainment will be a brand new show by QT Entertainment’s Cody Williams.
Parks and Recreation also thanks its business sponsors.
“We’d also like to thank the tireless efforts of volunteers who come back each year, including those from Aletheia Sedona, SummitLife Sedona, Sedona Volunteer Park Rangers and the Civil Air Patrol cadets,” Baxter said. “Thank you to my Parks and Recreation team, city maintenance staff and Sedona Police bike patrol. I may spend numerous hours planning, but, without everyone mentioned, this event could not be a reality.”
Ticket sales begin Monday, April 8, at the Parks and Recreation office at 525 Posse Ground Road or by phone at 282-7098. The event will not sell out, but they encourage pre-sales to eliminate waiting to pay at the door. Cash sales only at the gate.
