Gallery Tesla offers an amazing variety of art, statutes, sculpture, jewelry and specimens from around the world. We have an exciting selection of recently acquired fossil specimens that range from 150 to 500 million years in age.
Orthoceras is an ancient mollusk that lived some 400 million to 500 million years ago in what is modern-day Morocco. Orthoceras means “straight horn,” referring to its characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The fossilized shell is all that remains of this ancestor of modern-day squid. Our specimens range in size from 2-inch-long, drilled and polished, $3 pieces that you can wear on a necklace to polished 6-foot-tall center pieces. The fine polish allows one to study the specimens in close detail.
Equally as exciting are the approximately 150-million-year-old fossilized shark’s teeth. Whether you prefer to have a tooth of an ancient sandtiger shark or one from Otodus Obliquus, a direct ancestor of Megalodon — a shark the length of two buses — you can’t help but wonder at the detailed preservation of these teeth by Mother Nature.
To study nature’s architectural skills, Ammonite fossils are perfect. Their delicate yet elaborate forms have intrigued mankind for thousands of years. This fossil has inspired legends and myths. Ammonite comes from its appearance, resembling a ram’s horn. In Egyptian mythology, the god Ammon is said to have been a man with ram’s horns. The ancient fossil was considered Ammon’s stone and called ammonite.
