The Sedona Arts Center is offering a series of camps for children this summer. Costs and other specific information are available at sedonartscenter.org.
- The Art of Filmmaking will be offered Monday through Friday, June 3 through 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
The summer Art of Filmmaking Camps at Sedona Arts Center provide a rich artistic environment for youth ages 10 to 14 years old. Instructors Bryan Reinhart and Kelli Klymenko will lead students as they begin deconstructing scenes from contemporary favorites, examining all the aspects that make a scene work. Students then develop their own story line to bring to the big screen.
Students will explore writing, story development, acting, camera work, lighting, editing, graphics and presentation. The process creates a great opportunity for students to discover new interests and skill sets. The camp culminates in a screening of the final film but students have the opportunity to create their own individual edit during camp from the footage they have developed together.
The filmmaking camp schedule includes a morning session from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., lunch from 12:30 to
1 p.m. and the afternoon session from 1 to 4 p.m.
Enrollees may choose a payment plan with a $125 deposit and the balance due Monday, May 27. This will be an automatic charge. Deposits are non-refundable upon enrollment and the balances are non-refundable after the two week date.
- Summer Clay Camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 10 through 12, and Friday, June 14. There is no Thursday, June 13, session. Taught by Rayna Griffin in the Ceramics Studio, hours will be 10 a.m. to noon for children.
Children ages 8 to 12 years old are invited to get their hands dirty and let their imagination soar while working with clay this summer. Each student will complete at least five finished unique ceramic pieces. The class will learn and explore ancient and essential ceramic skills in pinch, coil, slump and slab hand building techniques in clay.
Kids are invited to bring their ideas to the studio and enjoy two hours each day in a fun and relaxing environment, getting their hands in clay and creating to their hearts desire.
- Summer Comic Book Camp will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children who have wanted to learn to make a comic book can learn the ins and outs on how to write, pencil, ink and letter a comic book. Learn from Sedona-based comic book artist/cartoonist Jan Marc “The Janimal” Quisumbing, former art director with New York City-based comic book publisher Pronto Comics and current president of the Northern Arizona Cartoonist Association, and from DC and Marvel Comics veteran Dave Beaty, whose credits include Justice League, Batman Incorporated, Wonder Woman and X-Men.
The end goal will be for students ages 12 to 15 to produce a fully drawn page of sequential art. All supplies are provided.
Scholarships are available. Visit sedonaartscenter.org for information.
