Bridge replacement means road closed2 min read

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Flagstaff drivers who use McConnell Drive to plan for a full road closure for six weeks beginning Monday, July 8, while crews begin work to replace the McConnell Bridge on I-17/SR 89A approaching Flagstaff.

McConnell Drive will be closed in both directions between Pine Knoll Drive and Beulah Avenue around the clock Monday, July 8, through Monday, Aug. 19.
The following detours will be in place during the closure:

  • I-17/State Route 89A McConnell Drive off-ramp detour:

For NAU access: Motorists can use S. Milton Road to University Drive to S. Knoles Drive to access NAU.
For west Flagstaff access: Motorists can use S. Milton Road to W. Forest Meadows Street to Beulah Boulevard.

  • Eastbound McConnell Drive detour: Motorists can use Beulah Boulevard to W. Forest Meadows Street to S. Milton Road to S. Knoles Drive.
  • Westbound McConnell Drive detour: Motorists can use S. Knoles Drive to University Drive to S. Milton Road.

The project involves a full bridge deck replacement, bridge widening and sidewalk construction on the north side of McConnell Drive and is scheduled in three phases over two years with completion scheduled for fall 2020.
