The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the encore of the critically-acclaimed new film “The Tobacconist,” showing Friday through Sunday, July 26 through 28, at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.

“The Tobacconist” debuted to rave audience reviews at the recent Sedona International Film Festival and is returning to Sedona by popular demand.
The film stars Simon Morzé as Franz Huchel and Bruno Ganz as Sigmund Freud in one of his last motion picture appearances. Ganz died Feb. 16 of this year.
“The Tobacconist,” based on the international bestseller by Robert Seethaler, is a tender, heart-breaking story about one young man and his friendship with Sigmund Freud during the Nazi occupation of Vienna.

Seventeen-year-old Franz journeys to Vienna to apprentice at a tobacco shop. There he meets Freud [Ganz], a regular customer, and over time the two very different men form a singular friendship.
When Franz falls desperately in love with the music-hall dancer Anezka, he seeks advice from the renowned psychoanalyst, who admits that the female sex is as big a mystery to him as it is to Franz.
As political and social conditions in Austria dramatically worsen with the Nazis’ arrival in Vienna. Franz, Freud and Anezka are swept into the maelstrom of events. Each has a big decision to make: To stay or to flee.

Ganz was the ninth holder of the Iffland Ring, a diamond ring passed down among German stage actors since 1814 indicating they are the “most significant and most worthy actor of the German-speaking theatre.” Ganz was perhaps best known among English-speaking audiences for portraying Adolf Hitler in “Untergang [The Downfall],” which depicts the last days of the dictator and his inner circle in the bunker during the 1945 Battle of Berlin.

“The Tobacconist” will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre July 26 through 28. Showtimes will be 4 and 7 p.m. on Friday, July 26; and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28.
