West Sedona School has joined with the Sedona Police Department to host its Wildcat Carnival on National Night Out, Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m at West Sedona School.
“We have joined with National Night Out to promote getting to know your local law enforcement officers and volunteers. There will be various types of squad cars, safety demonstrations, a K-9 unit and the landing of a helicopter,” West Sedona School Principal Brenda Cady said.
They are just the kind of demonstrations elementary school students are thrilled to see up close.
“National Night Out is important for all communities as it represents a wonderful opportunity to forge and strengthen police-community partnerships,” SPD Chief Charles Husted said.
The difference this year for both events is the combination of the National Night Out police event with the West Sedona School fall carnival. Interactions with schoolchildren helps police establish a friendly rapport and raise awareness of issues facing them as they grow older.
“This is done in a positive setting, rather than the moments that can often involve victimization and tragedy,” Husted said.
This year’s main attractions will be the Tubs of Fun carnival ride, a dual-lane super slide, an inflatable obstacle course and bouncy houses for all ages.
“It’s just a great community event with the focus being on fun and family. We’ll have a variety of games plus the fantastic food,” Cady said.
The fall carnival is free, however, you will need to buy tickets for the food, rides and activities.
“The proceeds go to our PTA. We are earning monies towards supporting children in the classroom and offering extension learning environments in the outdoors,” Cady said.
Tickets can be bought at the carnival or online at wildcatcarnival. com/tickets. A silent auction will take bids on items such as hotel stays, Cliff Castle casino bowling, Golf at Sedona Golf Resort, Lowell Observatory tickets, jewelry, Jeep tours, facials and restaurant gift certificates. The night, sponsored by the West Sedona School PTA, is expected to share goodwill between the community and those charged with protecting them
