Later this year, voters will be asked to choose their favorite candidates from the presidential race all the way down to races at the municipality level.
In Sedona, voters will choose those seeking one of three vacant Sedona City Council seats — which are four-year terms — as well as that of mayor, a two-year term.
This year’s primary election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and if necessary, there will be a general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Any candidates receiving a majority of all the votes cast at the primary election will be declared elected without running at the general election.
Sedona candidates seeking office may obtain nomination papers and other materials at the Sedona City Clerk’s office, 102 Roadrunner Drive.
Just because an individual pulls a packet, it does not necessarily mean they are definitely running for office. Candidates must file nomination papers and other nomination forms with the clerk by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 6, for their names to appear on the Primary Election ballot.
Each candidate must also get the signatures of a minimum of 197 and maximum of 394 voters residing in the city of Sedona.
As of Wednesday, March 11, those to pull packets for council included Holli Ploog, Kathy Kinsella, incumbent Councilwoman Jessica Williamson, Stephen McGarry and Robin Harris. Those who have pulled a packet for mayor include current Mayor Sandy Moriarty and challenger Kurt Gehlbach.
