With the Sedona-Oak Creek School District’s partnership with the National School Lunch Program, the district is able to provide free breakfast and lunch to anyone in the area under the age of 18, whether district students or not, through Friday, March 27.
“Our food service program for the next two weeks will provide a grab and go breakfast as well as a grab and go lunch for any child in the community under 18 years old; no qualifying factor whatsoever,” SOCSD Assistant Superintendent Deanna DeWitt said.
Because many district students are eligible for free or reduced lunches during the school year — 57% district-wide and upwards of 70% at West Sedona School — the district wanted to make it a priority that those students that rely on meals at school were provided for over the break.
For the break, DeWitt said the district applied for a waiver and submitted applications to have delivery services in five locations.
“What we felt very strongly about is that because it’s a grab and go situation, we wanted to make sure that we were able to get it out into our community — not just at drop-off locations for the grab and go meals,” DeWitt said.
