Sedona police are investigating a case of vandalism and are hoping surveillance video from the scene will help lead to an arrest.
According to Sgt. Michael Dominguez, on Thursday, April 23, around 1 a.m., an unknown suspect spray painted graffiti at the Jack Malmgren Memorial Skate Park at Posse Grounds, which included lettering [initials] which are unknown to the police department. Red spray painting was done in several areas within the skate park.
A suspect was seen on surveillance video pulling into the parking lot next to the basketball court, but the person avoided the entrance and used a flashlight while inside the park, the police report stated. The back door to The Hub was also broken.
“Based on markings on the floor it appears the suspect or suspects skated inside The Hub,” Dominguez said. “Curtains were pulled down but there’s no indication that anything was taken.”
Police will be reviewing surveillance tape from a camera mounted at the skate park. The suspects are facing charges of criminal damage and trespassing.
“We are asking park users to call the police right away if they are seeing vandalism of any kind in Sedona parks,” Parks and Recreation Manager Steve Richardson said. “We try our best to keep the Jack Malmgren Memorial Skate Park clean and ready for the community to use and hope to stop the few bad seeds who are engaged in this behavior.”
