Those looking to step back in time a bit and watch a classic movie from the 1980s — while getting the full drive-in movie experience — will have to wait another week.
“Footloose” was scheduled to be shown on Wednesday, June 3, at the Sedona Airport as a fundraiser for Sedona students. But as a result of Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey’s 8 p.m. curfew — which is in effect until 5 a.m. Monday, June 8 — organizers have decided to reschedule it to Wednesday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the airport.
“We would like to move forward with the drive-in movie event this week, but we recognize that there are more important things going on in the world, and want to be respectful of the current circumstances,” Marci Taylor, co-founder of Sedona XYZ, the event’s sponsor, said. “Increasing diversity — culturally and economically — is our first core value as a group and has been from the outset. So, we will continue to support the community as best we can in a positive way.”
The cost is $25 per carload with proceeds being donated to the Sedona Education Foundation to benefit high school seniors in the class of 2020.
Taylor said social distancing played a big part in choosing to go the drive-in route. As to why they chose to show “Footloose,” she said, “Drive-in movies are about nostalgia, and what better sentimental film to celebrate teen angst and making a change within the parameters you have at the time?”
