The Sedona Public Library closed on Wednesday, July 1, after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The library’s White Bear Road location will remain temporarily closed while staff members are tested and the library is deep cleaned and disinfected, according to a newsletter sent out by staff to library members the morning of Thursday, July 2.

“The closure is being taken as a precaution, based on internal procedures set in place to help minimize the spread of disease,” the newsletter stated.

Library director Virginia Volkman was quoted in the newsletter saying, “The health and well being of our patrons, staff, volunteers and the wider community remain a priority for Sedona Public Library.”

The library had recently reopened and had been following all Center of Disease Control guidelines to keep staff and the public safe, according to the newsletter. Masks were required for all staff and for patrons entering the building, social distancing was being practiced and acrylic barriers were installed. The library was also being routinely cleaned and disinfected.

The book drop remains open. Items currently checked out will have their due dates extended and items on the holds shelf will be available for pick up when the library reopens. The library website, sedonalibrary.org, will have updates.

The library’s Village of Oak Creek branch at Bell Rock Plaza, Suite 51A is still open, with guidelines in place, Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We wish our colleague a complete and speedy recovery and look forward to reopening the library [again] when it is safe to do so,” the newsletter said.
