Over the last several months, COVID-19 has forced many events to be rescheduled, if not completely canceled. Unfortunately for the Sedona Red Rock High School athletic program, the Chip in for Charity Golf Tournament finds itself in the latter category.

Even amidst the pandemic, Scorpions golf coach and tournament organizer Mike Webster had initially planned the tournament to be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Oakcreek Country Club. Webster was then told by OCC that — due to COVID — a shotgun start was not going to be possible, nor was the post round luncheon. After looking at other venues and dates, Webster came to the decision that the tournament couldn’t be held this year.

“After careful deliberation and thought, I am saddened to cancel the Chip in for Charity Golf Tournament due to several complications arising from COVID-19,” Webster wrote in an email. “If you have donated or signed up for the tournament, I will contact you directly for a refund.”

The 2020 event was to be the second Chip in for Charity Tournament. The first one, which was held in 2019, raised money for the Scorpions golf team. Coming off of that success, and noting some of the financial strains facing the athletic department, Webster planned the 2020 event with the intention of raising money for the school’s entire athletic department.

Others who wish to contribute to the SRRHS athletic department should also do so directly.
