The Sedona Community Pool is once again open to the public after a COVID-19 scare closed it the past two weeks.

The pool reopened on Monday, July 27. It closed July 13 after two lifeguards were exposed to someone who had COVID-19 earlier in the month, but not while they were at the pool. Both lifeguards were tested and those tests came back negative.

“We feel confident with the safety measures we have implemented that our staff and the community are safe while using the community pool,” Parks and Recreation Manager Steve Richardson said.

The pool will continue to have limited capacity for all programs. As such, programs have specific time slots for use. Limitations include:

■ Adult Lap Swim is limited to one person per lane, for a total of eight users at one time.

■ Aqua Fitness, StarBabies and StarTots classes are limited to 20 participants.

■ Recreation swimming, which for the rest of the summer season will only be offered once a day, is limited to 40 guests.

Participants are encouraged to secure their swim times by reserving a spot online via SportSites by going to sedonaaz.gov/pool and clicking on “Available Pool Offerings.” Calling ahead and walking up will only be accepted if there is room after those who used SportSites are given priority.

Additionally, the pool will continue to have strict safety and hygiene protocols, adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. Patrons will be reminded of these protocols. Richardson said some of the protocols include pre-screening patrons as they enter the facility, requiring face masks as patrons enter and exit the facility and requiring showers prior to entering the water.

“Lifeguards will continue wearing masks during a shift, and we will continue with regular sanitation times,” he said.

The current summer season’s schedule is through Saturday, Aug. 1, and details regarding an extended season will be announced next week.
