Sedona Parks & Rec cancels spring events2 min read

Those who enjoy events sponsored by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department will have to wait even longer to attend as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

Recreation Coordinator Ali Baxter announced on Tuesday, Feb. 9, that city staff canceled events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Food Truck Festival and Celebration of Spring for this year.

“The public’s health and safety are our No. 1 priority right now,” Baxter said. “With so much uncertainty remaining due to the pandemic, we believe it is necessary to cancel the spring 2021 signature city events.”

Baxter said some of the summer events are still in the works, at least for now. These include the soccer camp and bike camp, events where the department can limit the number of participants and safely distance them.

“Other events and activities are still in waiting,” she said.

While most of the spring events will not take place, there is a bit of good news. The Sedona Stumble 5K and 10K run through Posse Grounds Park and trails will still take place on Saturday, March 20. COVID modifications will be put into place including limited registration, smaller waves of runners, additional start times, sanitizer stations and limiting the number of gathered people in an area during any given time.

Registration will be available online at sedonaaz. gov/parks beginning Thursday, Feb. 19.

In lieu of Celebration of Spring, Parks and Recreation will be offering a ready-made scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt will be available for drive-thru pick up, from the Easter bunny himself, on Saturday, March 27, at Posse Grounds Park.

“Families will register online for their scavenger hunt goody bags complete with clues that lead kids on a fun hunt around the house using standard household items and a final surprise for all,” Baxter said.

Registration for this free activity will be available online March 1 through 19 at sedonaaz.gov/parks.
