As things slowly begin to get back to normal, the Sedona Police Department is eager to restart a popular community event.

It was announced recently that the SPD will be hosting Cops & Coffee on Wednesday, April 7, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Theia’s in Uptown, at 361 Cedar St. This will be the first one in more than a year due to the ongoing pandemic.

“I am delighted that we’re able to begin getting back to connecting with our community in-person,” SPD Chief Charles Husted said.

The public is invited to attend with no reservations needed. In terms of masks, he said they will abide by any related private business expectation that is in place.

The department plans to have both sworn and professional staff from the PD on hand to have conversations and answer whatever questions arise. Husted said these kinds of interactions are important for both the public as well as the officers.

“Casual events such as Cops & Coffee are a terrific opportunity to grow relationships, break down barriers, and foster important dialogue between neighbors and police officers,” he said. “We are one community and it’s important that we get to know one another on a humanistic level, working to build collaboration and trust.”

Sgt. Laura Leon agreed.

“The police department is dedicated to keeping constant lines of communication open between the officers and our community. You can never have too much of that,” she said. “We look forward to seeing you in person again since we haven’t met in a while due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Husted said that he’d like to see events like these take place every couple of months.
