The Sedona Fire District is looking for a new face on the dais.

SFD Governing Board Clerk Joy Moore announced at the meeting Tuesday, May 18, that she’d be stepping down immediately from her position to move out of state. Moore was elected to her seat in November 2018. Her term was set to expire November 2022.

“For family reasons I’ve had to move away and this will be my last board meeting,” she said via Zoom. “I want everyone to know that during the two terms I’ve served, I’ve had a great deal of joy, passion and gratefulness to be part of the Sedona Fire District family. I’m very sad to be leaving but family circumstances have dictated my change.”

Moore served on the board from 2004 to 2008 before being elected a second time in 2018. Board member Gene McCarthy will now serve as the board’s clerk.

“We’re going to have a huge hole to fill because you’ve been very active and a big part of the Sedona governing board,” Chairman Dave Soto said.

Fellow board members and staff also thanked Moore for her time with the district and praised her for her dedication and knowledge.

“Thank you for your dedicated service,” Chief Jon Trautwein said. “You are so passionate about the board and the district. I will miss that.”

According to the Arizona Revised Statutes, if a vacancy occurs on the district board other than from expiration of a term, a quorum of the board members shall fill the vacancy by appointment of an interim member, and except for a district formed pursuant to Article 3 of the code, a quorum of the board members shall fill the vacancy within 90 days after the date the vacancy occurs.

If the quorum of district board members do not appoint an interim member within that 90- day period, the board of supervisors shall appoint an interim member to the district board within 60 days after expiration of the 90-day period. In addition, if the district is located in more than one county, the board of supervisors of the county in which the majority of the assessed valuation of the district is located shall make the appointment after the expiration of the 90-day period.
