More live music is being heard in town and soon, similar sounds will once again be heard from the pavilion at Posse Grounds Park.
After the city canceled the event for a year and a half due to COVID-19, the free Red Dirt Concert Series will be returning with four performances set for Sept. Fridays, 3, 10, 17 and 24. Each will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Posse Grounds Park.
“We got the go ahead to open more events in late spring after testing some singular activities,” Sedona Parks and Recreation Coordinator Ali Baxter said. “Summer is just too hot. Fall will be beautiful weather, just outside of the monsoon season.”
In the meantime, Baxter said they will be accepting applicants to perform in the series. While music will likely be the most popular act, she said this is the first time they’re looking for more of a variety of performers.
“We are looking for anyone in the performing arts category,” she said. “Each application will be given the same consideration. We plan to have two performers per week. However, we could also find that more performers would be a good fit together.”
While the criteria has expanded in terms of acts, the one requirement that remains is that at least one person in the performance must be from the Verde Valley.
While there will be no audience capacity limits due to COVID-19, Baxter said they will ask attendees to continue to respect distancing as appropriate and not attend if any symptoms of illness are present.
Applications are being accepted through July 29. Performers will be selected and notified the week of Aug. 2 and the performance lineup will be available the week of Aug. 9.
Applications should be emailed to abaxter@ sedonaaz.gov or through the city’s website at sedonaaz.gov under Parks and Recreation.
