Sedona police continue to investigate a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision near Midgley Bridge that left a Sedona woman dead.
According to Sedona Police Department Sgt. Michael Dominguez, the deceased woman has been identified as 58-year-old Edna Sosa.
The collision occurred around 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday Aug. 25, just south of the bridge near Mile Post 375.5, within city limits.
The collision involved a single vehicle, driven by a 42-year-old man from the Cottonwood area, traveling northbound and a pedestrian on the roadway.
Sosa was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Sedona Fire District.
“We’re still trying to figure out whether this was an accident or there’s more to it,” said Dominguez, who added that in a case like this, that’s standard investigative practice.
He said no vehicle belonging to Sosa was found in the area and there is no indication as to why she was walking in that area before the sun came up at 5:55 a.m.
Dominguez said the investigation will determine if there was any impairment on the part of either Sosa or the driver, who has not been charged.
The roadway was closed for over four hours, finally clearing around 9:45 a.m.
“We can’t move the body until the medical examiner arrives,” he said in terms of why the lengthy road closure. “In the meantime we have to preserve the evidence and assume it’s a crime scene until we can prove otherwise.”
