Evening blaze burns a West Sedona home2 min read

Sedona fire officials are continuing to investigate a home fire that resulted in an estimated $250,000 in damage.

According to Sedona Fire District Fire Marshal Jon Davis, at 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, crews were dispatched to a house fire in the 100 block of Roadrunner Drive in West Sedona.

“Upon arrival, crews reported a working fire with smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure,” Davis said. “Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control.”

A total of 28 personnel responded on 12 apparatus. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No Update on Fatal Crash

The Sedona Police Department’s investigation into a vehicle versus pedestrian accident near Midgley Bridge continues. The collision occurred around 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, just south of the bridge near Mile Post 375.5, within city limits.

According to Sedona Police Department Sgt. Michael Dominguez, the victim was iden­tified as 58-year-old Edna Sosa, of Sedona. She was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Sedona Fire District.

On Monday, Aug. 30, Dominguez said the depart­ment is waiting to receive the results of Sosa’s autopsy from the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office as well as the blood results of the 42-year-old male driver of the vehicle that struck Sosa.

An obituary submitted to the Sedona Red Rock News states there will be a celebration of life for Sosa on Sunday, Sept. 26. For details contact Kris Kontozoglou at 821-2877.

Sosa lived in Sedona for 15 years and worked as a cashier at Safeway.

According to staff, Sosa was well-liked, friendly with customers and always in good spirits. Coworkers are taking up a collection to help with funeral expenses. Her coworkers said she enjoyed walking all over the Sedona area, often refusing offers of rides and preferring to walk. They are unsure why she was in the particular area where she was struck on Aug. 25.
