For the first time in two years, this summer feels like it’s off to a normal start.
The city of Sedona’s Park and Recreation Department oversees the Sedona Community Pool, sports leagues, summer camps and the summer cinema series to provide a variety of activities to make it through Arizona’s high temperatures.
Cooling Off
With the pool back to full capacity, and the Sedona Wet Fest event on the schedule for the first time since 2019, the Parks and Rec Department hopes for a strong return of guests.
“Last summer the Sedona pool followed the state guidelines with stricter capacity limits, which were relaxed throughout the summer, eventually allowing for a greater capacity of up to 100 people in the fenced-in area at one time,” Recreation and Aquatics Supervisor Josh Frewin said. “This summer we are looking forward to getting back to a full opening with adult lap swim, water aerobics classes, open recreational swim, private rentals, swim lessons and more.”
The pool’s 4th of July Wet Fest takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on the holiday. Waterslides and water games will be available throughout the event. Entrance to the pool is free with live music and vendors right outside of the gate.
Camps and Programs
The sports facilities which includes disc golf, pickleball and tennis are available for individual use as well as for all ages throughout the city.
The city also partners with a variety of camps and programs for both children and adults.
The Posse Camp holds three camp sessions, one for “Nature Lovers” and the other two titled, “Move It & Groove It.” While the “Nature Lovers” camp session already ended, sign-ups for children ages 6 to 12 are still open for the “Move It & Groove It” sessions in July. The half-day camp integrates storytelling, music drumming with yoga and dancing.
For adults, the city offers a summer softball league. The games run from June to August for teams previously registered with the city.
Basketball and soccer camps are also offered for children of all grades in the next few weeks. More information on all of the city’s camps and course sign-ups can be found on the city website.
Movie Nights
To fill the evenings, Wednesday nights until the end of June, Parks and Recreation hosts a movie night at Posse Grounds Park amphitheater. At 7:30 p.m., family-friendly movies play on the big screen and movie-goers are encouraged to come out with a blanket, snacks and beverages for the screenings. Upcoming movies include the 1998 version of “The Parent Trap” on June 15; “The Great Outdoors” on June 22; and “Soul” on June 29.
