Maria Husted resigns from Sedona-Oak Creek School District Governing Board2 min read

Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has announced a vacancy on the Sedona-Oak Creek School District Governing Board member Maria Husted has resigned, due to the fact that her family has relocated out of the community and she is no longer eligible to serve. The resignation was effective July 4, 2022.

“The service that Mrs. Husted has provided to the school district and district residents is greatly appreciated,” Carter stated.

Because of the proximity of Husted’s vacancy to the filing deadline for the November elections, Carter will not fill the vacancy until after the election.

“Due to the timeline that filling this vacancy would require, it is in the best interest of all involved to wait until the nomination and election process is concluded to make an appointment,” Carter said. “Assuming the current candidates remain in the race, the appointment is expected to be in mid-November after the election has taken place and the canvass has been finalized. There are three candidates for two seats. The two candidates with the highest number of votes will be elected to four year terms through Dec. 31, 2026. The appointment through Dec. 31, 2024, will be of the candidate who receives the highest number of votes, without being elected outright to a full term.”

All school board elections in Arizona are non-partisan. If an eligible registered voter is interested in running for election to SOCSD Governing Board, or if anyone has questions please contact Carter at 2970 Centerpointe East, Prescott, by phone to (928) 925-6560 or email to Tim.carter@yavapaiaz.gov.

Husted is the wife of Sedona Police Chief Charles Husted, who announced in May he would be retiring after three years in Sedona and a 34-year policing career. He planned to leave in July, but will be remaining through August. The Husteds own a home in the Prescott area.
