With the latest campaign finance reports for Sedona mayoral candidates Samaire Armstrong and Vice Mayor Scott Jablow now available, voters can see how willing both of the contenders in the race — and their major supporters — are to practice what they preach.
Armstrong Donors
From Jan. 1 through Sept. 30, 2022, Armstrong received a total of $84,932.09, not including the candidate’s own funds, loans, refunds or in-kind contributions. Of this total $6,261.49, or 7.4%, came from donations smaller than $100. Of these donations, $13,545, or 15.9%, came from non-local donors who live outside the Verde Valley or the state of Arizona.
During this period, Armstrong’s campaign spent a total of $75,571.65, most locally, with $7,865.83, or 10.4%, spent outside the Verde Valley.
Armstrong received a total of 124 donations, 55 of which came from individuals who identified themselves as being retired or unemployed, while 69 came from business owners or individuals who are currently employed. Armstrong’s average donation was $684.94.
Jablow Donors
From Oct. 1, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022, Jablow received a total of $56,531.53, not including the candidate’s own funds, loans, refunds or in-kind contributions. Of this total $1,597.77, or 2.8%, came from donations smaller than $100. Of these donations, $4,930.47, or 8.7%, came from non-local donors who live outside the Verde Valley or the state of Arizona.
During this period, Jablow’s campaign spent a total of $40,362.67, with $21,358.60, or 52.9%, spent outside the Verde Valley.
Jablow received a total of 159 donations, 104 of which came from individuals who identified themselves as being retired or unemployed, while 55 came from business owners or individuals who are currently employed. Jablow’s average donation was $355.54.
Summary
Overall, Armstrong received more large donations than Jablow, and she also received a considerably larger number of small donations. Armstrong also took in twice as much as Jablow in donations from outside the Verde Valley. Jablow had twice as many donors who were retirees. Jablow distributed more than half of his campaign spending outside the Verde Valley, primarily on printing and consultancy, while Armstrong kept almost 90% of her spending local.
