ADOT to close State Route 89A switchbacks June 3 to 7

Keeping Sedona residents informed, the Arizona Department of Transportation is advising drivers and area residents and businesses to plan for upcoming daytime full closures and lane restrictions on State Route 89A in Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon.

The restrictions are needed for repair work resulting from a rockfall event in March 2023.

Full closures will be in place from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7.

North- and southbound SR 89A will be closed to all traffic between the switchbacks and the Oak Creek Vista area between mileposts 387 and 390.

Sedona-area drivers traveling north to Flagstaff will detour using State Route 179 to Interstate 17. Flagstaff-area drivers traveling south to Sedona will detour using I-17 to SR 179.

The roadway will reopen each day after work hours.

Oak Creek Canyon residences and businesses located north and south of the closure area will remain accessible during the closure.

SR 89A will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between the switchbacks and Oak Creek Vista between mileposts 387 and 390 24 hours a day from Monday, June 10, until late August.

A temporary traffic-signal will be in place to direct traffic through the work zone. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes to get through the work zone.

A 10-foot vehicle-width restriction will be in place and the speed limit will be reduced.

There will be intermittent full closures of SR 89A between June 10 and late August as construction activities require it.

ADOT will provide advance notice of the full closures.
