Council candidates raise $33,000 in first quarter2 min read

Summer and election season alike are heating up in Sedona. The first round of campaign finance reports for city council candidates are in, showing that so far, the two mayoral and four council candidates have raised a total of $33,109.49 through April 15.

Mayor

  • Incumbent Mayor Scott Jablow, running for reelection, raised $18,225 between January and April, added to his campaign’s outstanding balance of $5,849.33, all from in-state contributors. His campaign disbursed $3,289.88 toward expenses.
  • Former Vice Mayor John Martinez, running for mayor, raised $2,100 between January and April, including $600 from in-state contributors and $1,500 from his candidate committee. His campaign disbursed $1,888.58 toward expenses.

City Council

  • Incumbent Councilwoman Kathy Kinsella, running for reelection, raised $1,718 between January and April, added to her campaign’s outstanding balance of $4,530.40, including $1,650 from instate contributors and $68 from out-of-state contributors. Her campaign disbursed $1,209.42 toward expenses.
  • Derek Pfaff, running for election to a council seat, raised $1,541.49 between January and April, including $300 from in-state contributors, $600 from out-of-state contributors and $641.49 in personal funds. His campaign disbursed $566.49 toward expenses.
  • Incumbent Vice Mayor Holli Ploog, running for reelection to council, raised $9,525 between January and April, added to her campaign’s outstanding balance of $3,074.59, including $9,475 from instate contributors and $50 from out-of-state contributors. Her campaign disbursed $636.29 toward expenses.
  • Campaign finance reports are not available for council candidate Katherine Todd and former council candidate Mike Ward, who died unexpectedly on May 3, due to their having filed their statements of organization for their campaigns too late in the election cycle for them to be required to submit financial information. Data on Todd’s fundraising will be available following the conclusion of the next three-month fundraising period on July 15.

The Save the Cultural Park Committee, which was formed to support a referendum on the city council’s rezoning of part of the Sedona Cultural Park for use as a car camp, reported that it has raised $495 in cash and $2,012.67 in in-kind contributions for a total of $2,507.67.*
