Joann S. Bakula, née Schilffarth, 84, of the Village of Oak Creek, died May 14.

She was born in Milwaukee, Wis., to Elizabeth and Herman Schilffarth, attended Wauwatosa East High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and married Robert James Bakula in 1959. They lived on a trimaran while she earned a doctorate in esoteric psychology and taught at Florida International University, the University of Miami and Miami-Dade College.

She moved to the VOC in 2004 to enjoy the year-round hiking.
