The city of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department will be offering $10 drop-in peewee sports clinics for youth ages 3 through 6 from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, June 11, 18 and 25 and July 16, 23 and 30.

“I did a survey last fall, and there was a lot of response back about that three-to-five age group and having more preschool programs available, and this was one of my ideas to try,” Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor Carmen Brashier said. “The main purpose of the clinic is just to start getting more preschool kids active in the community and provide a place for parents to have an activity with their preschool kids during the week in the mornings. It’s a great time to bring all your preschool kids together and start learning some basic fundamental sports to help them grow as they enter school or home-school or sports or other things. [We’re] going to give them all of the fundamentals and ball handling as well.”

The clinics will cover basketball, soccer, track and T-ball, with two to three sports each week. Classes will be held at the Recreation Room adjacent to the multipurpose field at Posse Grounds Park.

“It will be kind of dependent on the kids,” Brashier said. “If they’re needing to get more energy out or if they’re getting bored with the sport, I’ll bounce them to the next … We’ll be changing it up depending on the needs of the kids.”

Snacks are not provided during the clinic and participants are reminded to bring water. Indoor plans are in place in case the weather gets too hot for participants.

“If it’s successful this summer, I’ll carry it onto the fall and just keep expanding it and adding more sports wherever the need of the community is,” Brashier said. “We’ll start small and then just keep growing.”
