Sedona election fundraising tops $90,0002 min read

The latest campaign finance reports for the April-to-July fundraising period from the candidates for Sedona City Council and mayor are in. Candidates and committees raised a total of $57,265.10 during the reporting period, bringing their total for the year to $90,374.59.

Mayor

  • Incumbent Mayor Scott Jablow, seeking reelection, raised $12,760 during the reporting period and spent $17,037.90. He has raised a total of $30,985 this year and his campaign has an outstanding balance of $16,506.55.
  • Former Vice Mayor John Martinez raised $12,010 during the reporting period and spent $5,595.38. He has raised a total of $14,110 this year and his campaign has an outstanding balance of $6,626.04.

Council

  • Incumbent Councilwoman Kathy Kinsella, seeking reelection, raised $1,655 during the reporting period and spent $6,039.70. She has raised a total of $3,373 this year and her campaign has an outstanding balance of $654.28.
  • Derek Pfaff, running for election to council for the first time, raised $7,665 during the reporting period and spent $8,419.57. He has raised a total of $9,206.49 this year and his campaign has an outstanding balance of $220.43. Pfaff’s fundraising included $1,000 from out-of-state donors and $990 in personal funds.
  • Incumbent Vice Mayor Holli Ploog, running for reelection, raised $2,030 during the reporting period and spent $7,547.05 She has raised a total of $11,555 this year and her campaign has an outstanding balance of $6,446.25. Her fundraising included $500 from the Arizona List political action committee, which describes itself as dedicated to “electing more prochoice Democratic women.”
  • Katherine Todd, running for election to council for the first time, raised $2,901 during the reporting period and for the year overall and spent $547.77. Her campaign has an outstanding balance of $2,353.23. Her fundraising included $700 in personal funds.

The Save the Cultural Park Committee, which was formed to support a referendum on the city council’s rezoning of part of the Sedona Cultural Park for use as a car camp for homeless Sedona workers, raised $18,244.10 during the reporting period and disbursed $5,636.97. The committee has raised a total of $20,751.77 this year and has an outstanding balance of $8,102.13. Its fundraising has included $12,750 in cash and $5,494.10 in in-kind contributions.

Tim Perry grew up in Colorado and Montana and studied history at the University of North Dakota and the University of Hawaii before finding his way to Sedona. He is the author of eight novels and two nonfiction books in genres including science fiction, alternate history, contemporary fantasy, and biography. An avid hiker and traveler, he has lived on a sailboat in Florida, flown airplanes in the Rocky Mountains, and competed in showjumping and three-day eventing. He is currently at work on a new book exploring the relationships between human biochemistry and the evolution of cultural traits.
