Sedona Red Rock High School will hold its annual Winter Concert and Student Showcase on Wednesday, Dec. 18, to celebrate fine arts and student achievement. The photography and art exhibit in the lobby will begin at 5 p.m. and will be follow by an orchestra performance at 6 p.m.
“One of the reasons why you should come out is because we’re collaborating with the community,” orchestra and music teacher Cody McKesson said. “Your attendance gets you a ticket into a raffle with local businesses providing free services. One is a full auto car detail you could win, or horse ride through Sedona trails, one was a guided star tour. There are a few artists who were bringing in their local art portraits to raffle off. There’s just a lot of community raffling off their things simply for going to the concert.”
The theme of the concert will be “Dashing Through Sedona” and the concert will feature holiday music performed by middle and high school students.
This middle school group has the most improvement out of any middle school that I’ve taught at this school the past two years,” McKesson said. “I’m excited to go to see how much that progress grows into the spring and into next year.”
The program will include Jacques Offenbach’s “Barcarolle,” the Russian Dance from Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcraker,” a Christmas medley, Cooper Ford’s “Exhilaration” and Brian Balmages’ “Velocity” and “Momentous.” Solo performers will be Logan Jankowski in Camille Saint-Saëns’ “L’Éléphant”; Khrystian Cordova in Modest Mussorgsky’s ”Un Larme”; and Zoe Morgan in William Lyons’ “Goblin Dance.” Lotus Flores and McKesson will perform “Adoration” by Florence Price and Kaylee McLean, Christian Mendoz, Juni Spielman, Teddy Arizmendi, Harper Holland, Phoebe Jones, Luke Metzger and Kasin Burke will sing “Carol of the Bells.”
“This is one thing that can bring the community closer together and [to] show what our students have been working hard,” McKesson said. “If you like holiday music, you’ll be happy, if you like classical music … If you want to feel involved in the community, come here and enjoy their show.”
