Those who have sat through a dozen city meetings involving the proposed CVS Pharmacy may have a bit of déjà vu during the Tuesday, April 14, Sedona City Council meeting.
During that meeting, which begins at 4:30 p.m., the council will first vote to reconsider action taken last month, which denied a zone change for the project at the intersection of Airport Road and State Route 89A. If a majority of the council members are in favor, there will then be a public hearing followed by a revote on the matter.
The council voted in favor of the project 5-2 on March 10. However, a petition signed by residents near the proposed project site forced a seldom-used legal protest. This requires 75 percent of the council — or six of the seven — to vote in favor of the measure. In that case, Vice Mayor Mark DiNunzio and Councilwoman Angela LeFevre were opposed to a zone change, thus denying the change.
Since the legal protest is in effect, six of the seven council members would still have to vote in favor of the measure April 14 for it to be overturned, City Attorney Mike Goimarac said.
