Rancho Solano Preparatory Academy was no match for Sedona Red Rock High School’s tennis teams Tuesday, April 7.
The Scorpions boys, in fact, needed just two singles matches to blank the Scottsdale school, which elected to forfeit the rest of its matches after wins by senior Max Hauserman and junior Peter Hoyle, who collected his first high school match play victory.
“They only had two boys on the team, so they decided not to play a doubles match,” said girls head coach Phil Kovac, whose team was a singles victory away from also shutting out the Mustangs,
winning 8-1. “It would’ve been meaningless anyway.”
With no matches forthcoming between the lower players on the varsity ladder, Kovac could comfortably direct the boys as well, as head coach Duane Edwards stayed back in Sedona to put together his lineup for the Division III state singles and doubles tournament, which will begin Friday, April 24.
