Nobody was injured when a Sedona Trolley car caught fire in Uptown Monday, March 28, according to its driver Tom Shoemaker. The trolley began to lose power as it was headed north on State Route 89A up the hill approaching the traffic signal at Forest Road.
Shoemaker said it felt like the transmission was going out. Smoke began seep into the trolley near the driver’s area, then the fire started. Shoemaker stopped the trolley just past the traffic signal, evacuated his riders — about seven according to a spokeswoman for the company — then grabbed a fire extinguisher and, with the help of a couple of Pink Jeep employees who also had extinguishers, doused the fire. “Everyone got out safe and sound,” he said, adding that he didn’t know what caused the blaze.
Sedona Fire District personnel responded to the early afternoon scene. Sedona police officers were directing traffic.
