Senior Keagan Webster sinks a long putt on the second hole of the Sedona Golf Resort. Webster led the undefeated, second-ranked Scorpions to their second tournament win April 12 at the River Valley Invitational.

Until a three-way match Monday, April 26, at Northland Preparatory Academy, the five Sedona Red Rock High School varsity golf players are on break.

“We’ve already qualified for State,” co-coach Dennis Mobley said after the Scorpions canceled a trip Monday, April 18, to a multiple meet at Northwest Christian High School, “and the players have been missing too much school.”

So, especially after routing Camp Verde High School by 41 strokes for their 14th dual match win Thursday, April 14, at Seven Canyons Golf Course, improving individual scores is the goal of the week.

“They played 18 holes each day [April 11 and 12],” said Mike Webster, SRRHS assistant coach. “After a day off, they went to Seven Canyons to play 18 more holes.

“We just kind of looked at [April 18]’s drive down to Phoenix and didn’t feel it was worth it.”

Webster’s son, Keagan, was the third-lowest scorer as the Scorpions won their second invitational in 10 days April 11 at River Valley High School.

Junior Stesiree Ho, the No. 4 golfer, was the lowest scorer of 10 girls from Arizona, California and Nevada at Mojave Resort Golf Club near Needles, Calif. She would win by 31 strokes to take home the individual girls trophy.

“With three matches remaining, I see us going into state undefeated,” Mike Webster said. “We should have two to three players in the top five of the state.”

But Keagan Webster, the team’s No. 1 golfer, wasn’t even the top scorer April 14 on Seven Canyons Golf Course. He tied for second with No. 3 golfer Neil Smith, behind fellow junior Seth Farmer’s 38.

Behind Webster, the Scorpions are 37-0 and second in Division III heading into the final three matches of the season before the state tournament Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, at Prescott’s Antelope Hills Golf Course.
