Sedona Police Department, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office investigating three burglaries2 min read

A trio of businesses were burglarized over the past week. The investigation into each crime continues.

According to the Sedona Police Department, on Wednesday, April 3, a call to the SPD came in at 7:46 p.m. from the security company for Oaxaca Restaurant, located at 321 SR 89A, Suite 3.

Police arrived within four minutes to find forced entry in the back of the property but no intruders. An unknown amount of money was taken.

At press time, SPD Lt. Lucas Wilcoxson said there were not updates or arrests in the case. When asked if the police have seen an uptick recently in home or businesses burglaries, he said there hasn’t been.

Wilcoxson suggested the following for businesses to help prevent becoming a burglary victim:

  • When it comes to money, it should be stored in a safe place rather than the cash registers.
  • The password to the alarm needs to be changed when an employee that had access to the password leaves the business.
  • When it comes to door latches, replace the small screws with 1½- to 2-inch screws. The longer screws will screw into the stub of the wall rather than the soft wood of the door frame.

The Yavapai County  Sheriff ’s Office is also investigating two business burglaries that happened during the early hours of Thursday, April 4.

YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn said detectives are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a burglary suspect or suspects who cut the power to a small strip mall in the Village of Oak Creek and broke into two of the businesses in the 6500 block of State Route 179 — Sedona Beauty Company and Walter’s Ice Cream and Hot Dogs.

A safe, cashbox, cash drawer and a large quantity of hair care products were stolen, D’Evelyn said. The safe and cashbox were recovered.

“It is possible the suspect or suspects may attempt to sell a large quantity of hair care products to friends or associates in the community,” he said.

Total loss to the businesses was approximately $1,000 in stolen merchandise and damages.

As of press time, D’Evelyn said there were no major updates but added that detectives have some leads but no arrests had been made.
