Delayed Ambiente: A Landscape Hotel to go before the Sedona Planning and Zoning Commission July 22 min read

The public will have to wait a little longer before hearing about a hotel concept new to this country. A city announcement states that a public hearing for Ambiente: A Landscape Hotel was scheduled and noticed for Tuesday, June 18.

However, it has been delayed and the project is tentatively set to come before the Sedona Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday, July 2.

This is the second time the item has moved dates, having originally be scheduled to go before P&Z on June 4 before it was postponed by two weeks.

“The applicant is continuing to work with the Arizona Department of Transportation regarding access to the site from State Route 89A,” the announcement states. “Based on the applicant’s most recent conversations with ADOT, they are proposing additional changes to the site plan to minimize the impact on the right-of-way.

“These changes require a resubmittal of the plans and additional review by staff, which could not be completed in time to produce a staff report and recommendation for the June 18 meeting.”

Sedona Assistant City Manager and Community Development Director Karen Osburn said it’s not uncommon for projects of this size to be delayed for one reason or another.

“We need to ensure what is being presented is complete and contains all the details necessary for commissioners to conduct a thorough review and make a well-informed determination about the project,” she said after the first delay.

The hotel is the brainchild of Mike Stevenson, who has been a business owner in the Verde Valley for many years. According to the developer’s letter of intent, the proposed project will be located on a vacant 3.1-acre parcel on the north side of State Route 89A. The property is directly across State Route 89A from the Les Springs subdivision entrance and just west of Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill.

The triangular-shaped parcel has approximately 760 feet of frontage adjacent to State Route 89A and the other two sides of the parcel are adjacent to the Coconino National Forest on the north and Crestview Community Church and St. John Vianney Catholic Church to the west.
