The Sedona Red Rock High softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Camp Verde High, 13-11 and 10-2, on Wednesday, March 27.

The girls battled CVHS in the first game. In the face of devastating winds, SRRHS stayed patient and selective at the plate.

The Scorpions put together a rally in the third when they bunched five walks and a hit by pitch. Unfortunately, Hayley McCord?s liner was snagged for a double play as the runner on second was caught cheating off the bag.

In the fourth, Alisha Giorgianni delivered a two-run single to make it a four-run game.

The girls were able to close the gap late, with another Giorgianni mash and hits from the top six girls in the lineup.

Sedona was just short in the end, however.

?Our level of play has risen from the first game. We limited our walks. We are getting more consistency, especially from first base,? Head Coach Tammy Walz said.

Pitcher Jenna Diaz stayed around the plate and the defense behind her stuck with plays in the wind and dirt in the eye.

?Our patience was there and the fundamentals came through. We are eliminating that extra throw from second to third to home. There is an understanding there,? Walz said.

The girls traveled to Wickenburg High on Thursday, March 29, for the first game of conference play, but results were not available by press time.

SRRHS will travel to Estrella Foothills High on Saturday, March 31, and then host Parker High on Wednesday, April 4.
