Sedona cancels Uptown trick-or-trick1 min read

The city of Sedona has canceled the popular annual Uptown Halloween event for the second year in a row.

Sedona Parks and Recreation Manager Dawn Norman said the Uptown Trick or Treat event relies on merchant participation and with the current COVID concerns, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department wanted merchants to provide input.

“I asked the [Sedona] Chamber [of Commerce] to help gather input and they conducted a survey of the Uptown merchant members asking if they would like to offer or cancel the event this year,” Norman said. “From the responses received, the majority voted to not offer it this year. Due to the sensitive nature, we followed up with the merchants to encourage those that hadn’t responded an opportunity to be included in the vote and resent the survey. We only garnered a couple more votes, which did not change the outcome of the results.”

Instead, the city will offer a Trunk-or-Treat event at Posse Grounds Park on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. as an alternative for area children.

“We will be inviting Sedona businesses and organizations to participate and host a trunk,” she said. “This is an opportunity for those to be a part of a community event along with promoting a business or club/organization.”

Those interested in being a Trunk Host can contact the Parks and Recreation office at 282-7098 or email at SedonaRec@sedonaaz.gov.
