The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau stated Monday, Nov. 8, that it is actively investigating the death of a 20-year-old man who was found on Saturday, Nov. 6, in his car along I-17 near mile post 307 east of Sedona.
The original call came in to 911 through Cottonwood police, who sent Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers to the reported location of the car. DPS then called YCSO to conduct the investigation.
YCSO detectives were able to determine that the 20-year-old man had been reported missing by his sister out of Phoenix on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
There were no witnesses to the man’s death and the cause of death was not apparent at the onset of the case. Evidence at the scene was inconclusive, though it was evident the death was violent.
YCSO has not released any further information. YCSO detectives are investigating all physical evidence to confirm or rule out foul play, and the Yavapai County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy Nov. 8 to assist in the determining cause of death.
YCSO should have more information in the coming days.
