Tree lighting event returns2 min read

The Sedona Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the beginning of its holiday celebrations with the annual Sedona Christmas tree lighting and visit from Santa.

The event will take place on Friday, Dec. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tlaquepaque North shopping village. General Manager & Resident Partner of Tlaquepaque, Wendy Lippman, has hosted the Sedona Christmas tree lighting for the past four years.

“We are so excited to be hosting our local holiday events again this year,” Lippman said. “After a stressful and chaotic year, the Christmas Tree Lighting is an opportunity for Tlaquepaque to bring people back together and celebrate the positive side of life.”

Sedona Mayor Sandy Moriarty will count down and light the 26-foot traditional Christmas tree. The tree, which years before was previously placed at the Canyon Breeze Plaza in Uptown, is one of Sedona’s favorite holiday traditions.

Children of all ages will be greeted by Frosty the Snowman, then given the opportunity to tell Santa their Christmas wishes and dreams for the new year. Glitter tattoos will also be available for children.

While the kids are talking with Santa and Frosty, guests can enjoy holiday refreshments and live music entertainment. Free cookies and hot chocolate will be provided by Pump House Station. Sedona Charter School will be performing from 5 to 5:30 p.m. along with Boom Percussion Drumline. Goody bags also will be provided by the Sedona Chamber of Commerce.

Last year’s tree lighting happened virtually through Tlaquepaque’s Facebook page. With the return of many of Sedona’s traditional Christmas events, Sedona Chamber of Commerce along with Tlaquepaque is expecting large turnouts to this upcoming season.

Tlaquepaque will also be hosting the Festival of Lights later in the month, as well as the Menorah for the first night of Hanukkah.

“We believe these events instill a sense of community and it’s what makes Sedona a great place to be and live,” Lippman said.
