The Sedona Community Foundation is now seeking nominations for the 2007 Spirit of Sedona awards.
The annual awards, created to recognize local businesses, organizations and members of the community who volunteer time and effort, and offer leadership and/or financial assistance to area nonprofits, are given in four categories.
Last year, Volunteer of the Year awards went to individuals who selflessly volunteered time and effort to improve the quality of life in Sedona, according to SCF Events Chairwoman Dawn Bershader.
Jim Bishop, selected for his role in planning the Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park at the Posse Grounds, and Adele Seronde, founder of Gardens for Humanity, both claimed awards.
The Business Benefactor award, which honors Sedona businesses for supporting area nonprofits and making charitable contributions to the community, went to local printing company Focus on Graphics in 2006.
Focus on Graphics owner Ted Majewski and his wife were selected for ongoing contributions to the Sedona Arts Center and their willingness to assist area nonprofits with creating brochures and other promotional materials, according to Bershader.
The Philan-thropist of the Year award — reserved for individuals or couples who make selfless contributions to the community through funding, leadership or other means — went to Jack and Carole Wooldrik in 2006.
The two were recognized for quiet, but generous, contributions to the SCF, Chamber Music Sedona, the Sedona Arts Center, the Humane Society of Sedona and other area nonprofits, Bershader said.
The Sedona Public Library, which is known for continuously hosting community events and educational programs, claimed the SCF’s 2006 Nonprofit Organization award intended for organizations that benefit the community through innovative projects, and quality programs and services.
Nominations for the 2007 Spirit of Sedona awards will
soon flood the SCF’s 1835 W. Hwy. 89A office. Due by Monday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m., nomination forms may be obtained at the office.
“These awards are in the spirit of honoring those who make the biggest impact on the Sedona community,” SCF Manager Delstene Atkinson said.
Award recipients will be formally recognized at the SCF’s annual Spirit of Sedona awards celebration at L’Auberge de Sedona on Monday, Nov. 12.
Following the celebration, the foundation will make donations to each recipients’ nonprofit of choice.
