There are poor, average, good and great teams in volleyball throughout a regular season. To begin a season a team can start out poor and become great or vice versa.
The volleyball team at Sedona Red Rock High graduated from an average team to a good team this past week, winning two out of three games against conference foes.
On Thursday, Sept. 27, Sedona hosted River Valley High and won the match in three straight games.
“We can be tough to beat when we use our middles [blockers] and our outsides [hitters] more effectively,” Sedona head coach John Parks said.
With the win, Sedona improves their record to 20-16 [4-2] on the season and are now ranked 15th in the 3A conference in power points.
The Scorpions are also in second place in the 3A-West region only behind Parker High.
Another win came on Saturday, Sept. 29, against South Pointe High as the Scorpions swept the match.

The only loss of the week came to a tough Estrella Foothills High team on Sept. 25 as the Scorpions lost a heart-breaker, three games to two.
“After the loss to Estrella Foothills we really emphasized in practice the use of our middles and outsides on the attack,” Parks said.
In the River Valley match, Sedona recorded 39 kills for a .255 attack percentage.
Sophomore Shelby Brekke had a .400 attack percentage and senior Erika Mark had a .555 percentage.
“This win was important. They’re all important,” Mark said.
Parks believes if those players can continue those numbers all will be well in Scorpions volleyball land.
Another standout was sophomore Logan Reilly who once again shined with her game, leading with 31 assists.
Reilly leads the team on assists for the season and could very well be tops in the region.
Senior outside hitter Marijana Jovanovic led the match with 11 kills and only two service errors.
“We came to play today and we preformed well,” Jovanovic said.
The Scorpions were in action on Tuesday, Oct. 2, against Chino Valley High, in Prescott.
Results were not available at press time.
Next up, Sedona will host region leader Parker High on Thursday, Oct. 4.
The match against Parker is going to be tough for the Scorpions Parks says, but he thinks the girls will be ready.
Game time is set for 6 p.m.
