Swordfish Swim Team ends summer session1 min read

Several Sedona Swordfish swimmers took a step forward in their individual performances this summer.

They also did well as a team at the summer season’s final meet — the 32nd Verde Valley Invitational on Saturday, July 27, where the girls team finished in third place and the boys team finished fourth.

Individually though, several swimmers shined — including 8-year-old Raegan Seip — who finished second overall in the
8 and Under Girls division, totalling 57 points while winning the 100 Individual Medley in 1 minute, 54.15 seconds.

“She’s a fantastic swimmer,” said Swordfish coach A. Jay Bronson. “She’s been swimming for 3 or 4 years now, since she was really little, and she’s one of the kids that are [at the pool] pretty much every day and really works hard.”

Sarah Reed finished second overall in the 13-14 girls division with 52 points, and won the 100 Freestyle in 1:03.78. Bronson said she did a rare thing for a 14-year-old by breaking 30 seconds as the leadoff in the 200 Freestyle relay.

“That is one of the hardest breaks, to get [under] that 30-second mark in the 50 freestyle” Bronson said, “and she did it in the last event of the day. She was the leadoff leg of the 13-14 relay that ended up winning — that was really exciting.”

Reed will only be in eighth grade this year, said Bronson — who is also the swimming coach for Sedona Red Rock High School — and he believes Reed has the potential to be a great swimmer when she moves up to the high school level next year.
