Summer fun in Sedona begins at the Sedona Community Pool on Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m.

The city Parks and Recreation Department won’t let fire, smoke or summer heat get in the way of residents’ good times as the second Summer 5K Series kicks off in Posse Grounds Park.

“The 5K Series kickoff this Thursday is still on,” said Ali Baxter, Sedona Recreation and Aquatics Supervisor.

Adam Gifford, president of a local running company that is helping Parks and Recreation present the event, hopes residents and other runners looking to stay cool and fit will beat last year’s opening turnout of 20 — and, perhaps, local Jason Blair’s last winning time of 22:06 as well.

“Twenty-five to 50 runners would be perfect,” Gifford said prior to last year’s first race. “We can definitely accommodate everyone who wants to participate.”
