The Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks honored local educators with its Teacher of the Year Awards in May, presenting four awards to teachers at Big Park Community School, West Sedona School,
Sedona Charter School and Sedona Red Rock High School.
Duane Edwards, who teaches U.S. history, government and economics, was selected from SRRHS, and he said it was a pleasant surprise to be the recipient from his school.
“Receiving the award was a great honor. Earning the award was a goal of mine when I first started teaching four years ago, so to win it was very gratifying,” Edwards said. “I found out by opening up the staff e-mail. I knew I was in the running, but I had no idea I was going to win. The award is quite prestigious at Sedona Red Rock High School, or at least I feel that way about it. Those who have won it before me are people I respect and admire. So, for that reason alone, to be mentioned in the same sentence as those former winners means a lot.”
