It isn’t a marathon from a battlefield to Athens, but thousands of locals and guests alike throughout July have competed to win medals in games at the Los Abrigados Resort & Spa and Sedona’s three other Diamond Resorts.

With 1,068 players receiving more than 200 medals through the first month of the DRIven to Fun games, Los Abrigados helped shatter a Diamond Resorts attendance record last week, as the four Sedona resorts have combined to host over 2,500 players with one week remaining in their inaugural summer games.

“During the Olympics in England two years ago, some of our summer resorts did kind of simulate awards medals for some silly contest,” said Ivan Menar, spa manager at Los Abrigados. “Our president, David Palmer, said, ‘This is a great idea. Let’s try it in Europe another year and, if it works, try it for six weeks in every Diamond Resort all around the world.’”

Day guests of the Bell Rock Inn, Ridge on Sedona, Sedona Summit or Los Abrigados spa can join the fun of the final week of the games, which begin at Los Abrigados 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, with a putt-putt challenge on the resort’s nine-hole, par-18 miniature golf course.
